The Process

Each bead is hand shaped and painted with concentration and love. They earn the name "Okawa" because they truly are tiny treasures. Click through the photos to see our process.

Step 1

Beads are hand formed, smoothed and allowed to dry. They are then bisque fired. With our current staff, the ladies use about  20 lb of clay in a week which makes about 1,500 beads.

/okawa/ noun • origin: Oshiwambo

1. something small and beautiful

2. tiny treasure
